On 5 November 2019, the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted a workshop on the protection of the rights of women victims of crime. The event brought together representatives of the judiciary (judges, prosecutors), law enforcement bodies, as well as experts from both the civil society and the public sector from Bulgaria. The debates focused on aspects such as: first contact with women victims of violence, interviewing victims’ witnesses, holistic approach towards the needs of women-victims, the assessment of physical and psychological trauma and the award of a just financial compensation, challenges in the judicial proceedings in cases concerning women-victims of crime.
